Men's Track

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has concluded the 2009-10 academic year ranked No. 42 out of more than 300 eligible Division II institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings. The Owls finished among the top-20 percent in the standings for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s finish also marked the third time in the last four years that the Owls have placed in the top-15 percent in the standings.

Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.), who recently completed his sophomore season with the Southern Connectiut State University baseball team, was profiled on the Rockbridge Rapids website after a strong start to his 2010 summer campaign. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second year in a row, former Southern Connecticut State University All-American Jim Fuller has been selected to a professional All-Star Game. Fuller, in his first year with the Savannah Sand Gnats, a Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, has been named a South Atlantic League All-Star. The league’s annual event takes place on June 22 at Fluor Field at the West End in Greenville, S.C.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was well-represented on the 2010 ECAC All-Star Team. Three members of the squad – sophomores Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) and Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) and freshman Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) – were tabbed for the First-Team, while head coach Tim Shea was named ECAC Coach of the Year. Cleary was also selected as the ECAC Rookie of the Year.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team has finished the 2010 season ranked No. 20 nationally in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. The Owls concluded the year with a mark of 38-13-1 and tied a program single-season record for victories. In the process, SCSU won the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title and also reached the finals of the NCAA East Regional.
