NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Joseph Poulsen (Oxford, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s cross country team has received preseason recognition from New England Runner magazine. Poulsen was tabbed as the No. 4 male Division II cross country performer in the region.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department and Nike, Inc., in association with Billings Sports, have reached a sponsorship agreement that will supply all of the Owls’ 19 intercollegiate programs with athletic uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment. Director of Athletics Patricia D. Nicol made the announcement earlier today.

07.02 | Men's Cross Country
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men’s cross country coach John Wallin has announced the team’s 2010 schedule. Last season the Owls were ranked as high as third in the region and No. 25 nationally. The Owls will take part in four competitions leading up to the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Nov. 7. The season opener for the Owls will be at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational on Sept. 11.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A total of 153 student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State University have been named to the Spring, 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded a minimum 3.0 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the Spring, 2010 semester. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has concluded the 2009-10 academic year ranked No. 42 out of more than 300 eligible Division II institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings. The Owls finished among the top-20 percent in the standings for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s finish also marked the third time in the last four years that the Owls have placed in the top-15 percent in the standings.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Former Southern Connecticut State University All-American John Wallin has been named head men’s cross country/track and field coach at his alma mater. The announcement was made today by Director of Athletics Patricia D. Nicol. Wallin has distinguished himself as one of the top coaches in the nation over the past decade, a span that included stints at Dartmouth, Adams State College (Colo.) and SCSU. Wallin spent this past year as an assistant coach for the Owls and was named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men’s Regional Assistant Coach of the Year during the outdoor campaign.
