NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department and Sprint have announced a partnership for the 2010 calendar year. Sprint will serve as a proud supporter of Owls’ athletics, as well as the Annual Owl Golf Classic. This year’s golf outing will take place on May 24 at the Lake of Isles South (Private) Course at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.), a senior on the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country team, has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department hosted its annual ‘Girls and Women in Sport’ Day on Saturday with a record-high turnout for the event. Nearly 200 youngsters took part in the festivities, which started with a series of clinics with Owls’ coaches and student-athletes. From there, the participants enjoyed a complimentary lunch, a meet-and-greet and autograph session with SCSU student-athletes, and lastly, admission to the basketball doubleheader against UMass-Lowell. This year’s event was supported by the Community Fund for Women and Girls, Bruegger’s Bakery-Café, Coca-Cola and the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation/Subway Restaurants. View Event Photo Gallery

The publication is produced annually as a source of information for the media, fans, parents, alumni and additional constituents. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Members of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s track and field squad were on hand at the New Haven Athletic Center on Monday to assist with event operations for the Southern Connecticut Conference championship track and field meets. The Owls assisted with timing, scoring and field event measurements.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Courtney Rechtiene (Shelton, Conn.), a sophomore on the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country and track and field squads, spent a part of the winter break in Matamoras, Mexico. Rechtiene was part of a group from Connecticut that went to the town to assist a family with the rebuilding of their home. Rechtiene and the group were also involved with fundraising for the family to help with the completion of their project.

Laura Brustolon (Stonington, Conn.), a senior on the Southern Connecticut State University women's cross country/track and field teams, has been named as one of the top 10 sports stories of 2009 by the Westerly Sun. Brustolon enjoyed an outstanding fall campaign for the Owls in which she won the Northeast-10 Conference individual championship and also captured All-Region and All-New England honors en route to qualifying for the NCAA Championships. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Children at the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital will receive some special holiday cheer courtesy of Southern Connecticut State University student-athletes once again this year. The Owls’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee joined together with all 19 intercollegiate programs to collect funds and purchase toys for youngsters at the facility. The toys will be distributed during the holiday season.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross-country team was named the Northeast-10 Women’s Athlete of the Year, as announced Wednesday by the Northeast-10 Conference. Brustolon had a stellar 2009 season in her last year as an Owl which included a trip to the NCAA National Championships, winning a Northeast-10 Championship and an All-Region selection among others. She also had the top two finishes in the conference all season and set Southern team records in the process.
