NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced the team’s 2010 schedule. The Owls open the campaign on March 8 with a road game against Georgian Court. Southern Connecticut will also have five regular season home outings among its 14-game slate.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department and Sprint have announced a partnership for the 2010 calendar year. Sprint will serve as a proud supporter of Owls’ athletics, as well as the Annual Owl Golf Classic. This year’s golf outing will take place on May 24 at the Lake of Isles South (Private) Course at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department hosted its annual ‘Girls and Women in Sport’ Day on Saturday with a record-high turnout for the event. Nearly 200 youngsters took part in the festivities, which started with a series of clinics with Owls’ coaches and student-athletes. From there, the participants enjoyed a complimentary lunch, a meet-and-greet and autograph session with SCSU student-athletes, and lastly, admission to the basketball doubleheader against UMass-Lowell. This year’s event was supported by the Community Fund for Women and Girls, Bruegger’s Bakery-Café, Coca-Cola and the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation/Subway Restaurants. View Event Photo Gallery

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse teams has been profiled in the January, 2010 edition of Lacrosse Magazine for its ongoing community service efforts. The publication highlighted the Owls in the current edition with a photo and text from the team’s annual pie baking initiative for the Springfield (Mass.) Rescue Mission. Student-athletes from the squad baked the pies during the week of Thanksgiving, and they were distributed as part of the holiday season.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Children at the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital will receive some special holiday cheer courtesy of Southern Connecticut State University student-athletes once again this year. The Owls’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee joined together with all 19 intercollegiate programs to collect funds and purchase toys for youngsters at the facility. The toys will be distributed during the holiday season.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – More than 30 student-athletes, coaches and staff members from eight different programs were on hand on Sunday to assist with the campus-wide ‘Friends of Rudolph’ event. This initiative, which runs in conjunction with the New Haven Police Department, brings more than 1,000 area youngsters to campus for a day filled with fun, games, and the opportunity to meet Santa Claus. Members of the baseball, field hockey, football, men’s basketball, volleyball, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer and women’s track and field teams participated in the event. View Event Photo Gallery

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second year in a row, a coat and clothing drive for the Springfield (Mass.) Rescue Mission resulted in the collection of nearly 500 gently-used and new items. Over the course of the past month, Southern Connecticut State University athletic department representatives dropped off the items to either the Athletic Communications office or the field hockey/lacrosse office. The items will be distributed by the Rescue Mission to those in need during the holiday season.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department traveled to Clinton Avenue Elementary School in New Haven on Wednesday as part of an interactive program with first and second grade students at the school. This week, members of the baseball, gymnastics, men’s basketball, men’s track and field, softball and women’s lacrosse teams participated in the event, which featured reading, grammar and vocabulary review in both small and large group sessions. The program will resume on Nov. 18 due to next week’s Veteran’s Day.
