NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Thirty-four student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State University have been named as 2009-10 recipients of the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT. The Academic Achievement Award is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team has been selected seventh in the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches’ poll. The Owls were ranked as high as No. 6 in the region last year and will look to qualify for the league tournament for the second time in the last three years.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department and Nike, Inc., in association with Billings Sports, have reached a sponsorship agreement that will supply all of the Owls’ 19 intercollegiate programs with athletic uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment. Director of Athletics Patricia D. Nicol made the announcement earlier today.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A total of 153 student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State University have been named to the Spring, 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded a minimum 3.0 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the Spring, 2010 semester. NEW HAVEN, Conn - Southern Connecticut State University head women’s soccer coach Adam Cohen has announced the team’s 2010 schedule. The Owls are coming off a 2009 campaign in which they won eight matches and were ranked as high as sixth in the region. The 2010 season will feature seven of 17 matches played at Jess Dow Field this fall, with the season opener on Sept. 3 against Queens College at the Franklin Pierce Tournament. View Schedule

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has concluded the 2009-10 academic year ranked No. 42 out of more than 300 eligible Division II institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings. The Owls finished among the top-20 percent in the standings for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s finish also marked the third time in the last four years that the Owls have placed in the top-15 percent in the standings.
