NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department and Sprint have announced a partnership for the 2010 calendar year. Sprint will serve as a proud supporter of Owls’ athletics, as well as the Annual Owl Golf Classic. This year’s golf outing will take place on May 24 at the Lake of Isles South (Private) Course at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department hosted its annual ‘Girls and Women in Sport’ Day on Saturday with a record-high turnout for the event. Nearly 200 youngsters took part in the festivities, which started with a series of clinics with Owls’ coaches and student-athletes. From there, the participants enjoyed a complimentary lunch, a meet-and-greet and autograph session with SCSU student-athletes, and lastly, admission to the basketball doubleheader against UMass-Lowell. This year’s event was supported by the Community Fund for Women and Girls, Bruegger’s Bakery-Café, Coca-Cola and the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation/Subway Restaurants. View Event Photo Gallery

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University head softball coach Lisa Barbaro has announced that seniors Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.), Julianne Flood (Poughquag, N.Y.), Kerry Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and Khristle Lee (Aztec, N.M.) will serve as team captains for the Owls this spring.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Children at the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital will receive some special holiday cheer courtesy of Southern Connecticut State University student-athletes once again this year. The Owls’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee joined together with all 19 intercollegiate programs to collect funds and purchase toys for youngsters at the facility. The toys will be distributed during the holiday season.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Members of the Southern Connecticut State University softball team visited children at the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s in New Haven on Sunday. The student-athletes distributed holiday gift boxes and participated in an array of activities with the youngsters.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from six programs – gymnastics, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, softball, volleyball, women’s soccer – made the trip to the Clinton Avenue School in New Haven on Wednesday as part of an interactive program with first and second grade students at the school. The event featured reading, grammar and vocabulary review in both small and large group sessions.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department traveled to the Beecher School in New Haven on Tuesday as part of an interactive program with fourth grade students at the school. Members of the field hockey, softball, men’s soccer, volleyball and women’s track and field teams took part in today’s session, which featured language arts work on a one-on-one basis. The Owls continue to work with the youngsters in preparation for testing that will take place during the spring semester.

The Owls’ student-athletes conducted an array of fundamental drills before coordinating an intrasquad wiffleball game.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Members of the Southern Connecticut State University softball team were on hand at the New Haven Public Library on Saturday for the ‘Paws To Read’ program. The Owls were joined by Alek, a Delta Society Certified Therapy dog and his handler, Isabel Beeman. The student-athletes and children read books and made decorations in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This was the fourth and final session of the semester.
