NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

Ashley Knight scored the game-winning goal, as the Owls defeated St. Anselm College on Saturday afternoon.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Ashley Knight (Rockland, Mass.) and Mara Primmer (Oneonta, N.Y.) each scored a goal, as the Owls went on the road and defeated St. Anselm College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Owls are now unbeaten in their last four games and improved to 10-4-2, 8-3-2 in Northeast-10 action, while the Hawks dropped to 6-9-2, 5-6-2 in the league.

Neither team could find any offense for the first 85 minutes of the game, however in the 86th minute of play, Nicole Burton (Warwick, N.Y.) connected with Knight for what proved to be the game-winning goal. 

Burton lined up for a free kick just outside the 1-8-yard box and found Knight for her fourth goal of the season. Primmer would add an insurance goal in the closing seconds, as the Owls completed a 2-0 shutout in Manchester, N.Y.

Katie DiDio (Vernon Conn.) made six saves in her eighth shutout of the season for the Owls, as Micaela Smith tallied five saves in the losing effort for the Hawks.

Southern will play its final regular season game on Oct. 28 at the University of New Haven. Game time for this conference match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
