Brian Bliss To Be Inducted In New York State West Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Former Southern Connecticut men’s soccer All-American and current Columbus Crew Technical Director Brian Bliss will be inducted into the New York State West Youth Soccer Association (NYSWYSA) Hall of Fame this Saturday, Nov. 15, at its Annual Awards Dinner in Rochester, N.Y.
A three-time captain and four-year starter, Bliss helped lead the Owls com¬piled a 60-14-8 record and ap¬peared in three NCAA Division II tournaments. A member of the United States National and World Cup team which competed in the 1990 World Cup competition in Italy, Bliss was also a member of the U.S. team in 1995 in the Copa America tournament and the U.S. Cup tournament.
He represented Southern and the U.S. in the 1986 and 1987 World University Games and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea.
Bliss made further history for Southern when he was the first player selected in the 1987 Major Indoor Soccer League draft, taken by the Cleveland Force. The Most Valu¬able Player in the 1987 MISL annual All-America Classic, he has played professionally in Germany’s second division with the Carl Zeiss Jena Club; and with the Columbus Crew, New York/New Jersey Metro Stars and Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer.
