Athletes of the Month
Women's Swimming
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and senior Chris Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) of the football team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for November. Sundel helped guide the Owls to a pair of dual-meet victories while excelling on the individual front. Meanwhile, Roberts led the football squad into the NCAA Playoffs for the fourth straight season thanks to a great month.

Men’s Swimming Competes in the USMMA Invitational
Meet Results

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Five different members of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s swimming team won events, as the Owls traveled to Kings Point, N.Y. for the United States Merchant Marine Academy Invitational on Saturday morning. In the competition, the Owls challenged USMMA, Queens, Adelphi, and SUNY Maritime College.

Sophomore Aaron Rocheleau (Newington, Conn.) won two more races for the Owls throughout the day. First, Rocheleau took first place in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:01.94 and later he picked up his second victory in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, finishing the race with a time of 2:15.76. Rocheleau also took second in the 100 Yard Freestyle for the Owls.

Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) performed well for SCSU as well. The freshman won the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:50.51 and took home third place in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Fellow freshman Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) also took home a first and third place finish at the meet. He won the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:02.19 and swam the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:28.04.

Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R.) finished first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:48.05 and took second in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:01.12. In addition, teammate Benjamin Prue (Alpharetta, Ga.) performed well throughout the day for Southern. In the 400 Yard IM he finished first with a time of 4:24.63 and in the 200 Yard Freestyle, the senior took third with a time of 1:56.36.

Ryan Cutler (Mystic, Conn.) took the silver in the 1-meter diving event posting a score of 195.60 and took home second in the 3-meter diving event, recording a final score of 217.13. 

Southern will return to action on Nov. 24 with a home meet against Fairfield University and Yale University in the Hutchinson Natatorium. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
