Ed Peters earned First-Team All-Region honors and is now eligible for All-American laurels.
Peters, Pinckney Earn All-Region Accolades
12/2/2008 7:38:05 PM
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University senior offensive lineman Ed Peters (Bloomfield, N.J.) and junior linebacker Jerome Pinckney (Ellenwood, Ga.) have earned Daktronics All-Region honors for Super Region One. Peters was a First-Team honoree, while Pinckney was tabbed for the Second-Team. Voting is completed by the region’s Sports Information Directors, with First-Team selections moving on to the national ballot for All-America laurels.
Peters, one of the top linemen in the nation, was previously named All-New England and Northeast-10 Offensive Lineman of the Year earlier this fall. He also earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the third consecutive season. The center and team captain played an integral role in the offense piling up nearly 5,000 yards of total offense this season. In addition, the Owls also had a 1,000 yard rusher for the fifth straight year thanks in part to his play.
Pinckney, also an All-New England honoree and the 2008 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, stepped right into a starting linebacker spot after joining the team from Dean (Mass.) College. He led the team with 67 tackles (8.5 for loss) and eight quarterback hurries. Pinckney also tallied 1.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had an interception.
The Owls closed the 2008 season on Nov. 15 with a loss to No. 20 nationally ranked West Chester in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. Southern Connecticut closed the year with an 8-3 record and qualified for the NCAA’s for the fourth straight year.
