2008 Season Stats

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five different members of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team scored at least four points as the Owls offense exploded for 20 markers in a 20-8 triumph over American International College on Tuesday.

With the win, the Owls are now 1-4 and 1-1 in Northeast-10 play. AIC is 0-5, 0-3 in league play.

Southern Connecticut took control of the game from the outset, as it scored the first three goals of the game. Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) opened the scoring before Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, Mass.) followed with two straight markers to make it 3-0.

AIC would net the next goal, but SCSU responded with scores from Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) and Kelly Anne McCafferty (Durham, N.H.) extended the lead to 5-1.

By the time the half was over, Monfredo had connected for three more goals and Amanda Dilger (Ocean Township, N.J.) had scored twice to go along with single goals from Kownacki, Carlucci, Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.) and Jessica Kraszewski (West Haven, Conn.). SCSU was in front by a 14-5 margin at halftime.

The Owls went on to double up AIC by a 6-3 tally in the second half. Martha and Kownacki both scored twice in the stanza, while Monfredo and Lisa Desanti (Meriden, Conn.) each scored a goal.

Goalie Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with seven saves for SCSU in the contest.

On the offensive front, Monfredo led the way with five goals for the Owls. Carlucci, Dilger, Kownacki and Martha each scored four points in the victory.

The Owls return to action on Thursday when they take on No. 1 nationally ranked LIU-C.W. Post at 4 p.m.
