Men's Swimming
Prue closed his first season with the Owls in fine fashion, as he took home All-America honors in two events at the 2008 NCAA Championships. He finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.45 and also placed 10th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.55.

Frost continued to build her résumé as she won four national championships in as many days in the month of March and set three NCAA Division II records at the championships.

Men's Outdoor Track And Field Team Wins Sixth Straight Northeast-10 Championship

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The reign of dominance continued for the Southern Connecticut State University men’s outdoor track and field team on Saturday, as it once again claimed the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The Owls captured the crown for the sixth straight time and added another title after winning the NE-10 indoor championship back in February.
Freshman Nana Ocran (Manchester, Conn.) took home Most Outstanding Performer honors after winning both the 100 and 200 meter events. Kevin Taylor (Bristol, Conn.) was selected as the Northeast-10 Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while head coach Jack Maloney earned Coach of the Year honors.
In all, the Owls won 12 events on the afternoon. They finished with 229 points, which was 85 points better than second place UMass-Lowell.
The Owls earned the top three positions in the discus. James Stathopoulos won the event with a throw of 139 feet, eight inches. Nicholas Fedor (Bethany, Conn.) and Robert Golabek (Hamburg, N.Y.) followed in second and third place.
Five other Owls also won field events.
John Brinley (East Hartford, Conn.) captured the hammer throw with a toss of 180 feet, one inch.
Kevin Taylor (Bristol, Conn.) won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 1 and ¾ inches.
Chris Watson (Manchester, Conn.) led the way in the triple jump with a jump of 46 feet, 6 and ¼ inches.
Golabek won the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 1 ¾ inches.
Ryan Whitehead (Darien, Conn.) had the top performance in the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet, 6 and ¼ inches.
Christopher Croff (Lisbon, Conn.) outdistanced the rest of the field in the 10,000 meters, as he completed the race in a time of 32:30.28.
Joseph Poulsen (Oxford, Conn.) captured the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:36.65.
Ocran won the 100 meters with a time of 10.90 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.94.
Corey Mosley (Bethany, Conn.) took first in the 800 meters with a tie of 1:54.40.
The Owls also benefited from six second place and five third place performances on the day.
Fedor was second in both the hammer throw and the discus. Also finishing second were John Walsh (Brookfield, Conn.) in the javelin, Diwani Augustine (East Hartford, Conn.) in the triple jump, Patrick Waszczak (Colchester, Conn.) in the pole vault and Larry Johnson (Stratford, Conn.) in the 100 meters.
Third place finishers included Charles Taylor (Willimantic, Conn.) in the javelin, Golabek in the discus, Daniel Haggerty (Albany, N.Y.) in the 1,500 meters, Ryan Kachmarsky (Monroe, N.Y.) in the 110 hurdles and Roman Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the 400 meters.
The Owls return to action on May 9-10 for the New England Championships at the University of New Hampshire.
