NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

LOWELL, MA. – The SCSU women’s soccer team traveled to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for a conference match on Saturday afternoon and came away with an impressive victory. With the win, SCSU raised its record to (3-1), while UMass-Lowell dropped to (1-2-2).

Ashley Knight (Rockland, Mass.) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute of action, with a free kick from outside the 18 yard-box. The shot was placed perfectly into the top-right corner for her second goal of the year.

Freshmen Jenna Mallico (Milford, Conn.) would provide an insurance goal in the 77th minute of the game for the Owls. Mallico beat one defender and then the opposing goalie for her second goal of the season, completing a 2-0 victory for SCSU.

With the goal, Mallico now leads the team with six total points on the season.

Owl goalkeeper Katie DiDio (Vernon Conn.) made five saves, to complete her third clean sheet of the season. River Hawk goalkeeper, Jamie Gillis, tallied two saves in the losing effort.

SCSU will travel to Long Island University C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. on Sept. 17 for a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
