SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Andrew Zito (Windsor, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s basketball team matched a career-high 18 points on Wednesday night but the squad fell short in their Northeast-10 Conference opener to Le Moyne, 88-64. Freshman Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) joined Zito in double-digits with 15.

The Owls are now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NE-10. The Dolphins improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference.

The first half was all Dolphins as they jumped out to an early 15-4 lead and never looked back. Carberry led the Owls with 11 points in the first twenty minutes of regulation as he went 3-for-5 from behind-the-arc. Chris Johnson led all scorers with 12 as Le Moyne took a 43-25 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Dolphins grabbed their largest lead of the game at the 15:09 mark up 26 but Southern cut the deficit to 15 in less than four minutes as they went on a 13-2 run. Zito was key during the Owls run as he hit a lay-up followed by two from behind-the-arc. He went on a stretch of four straight three-pointers but it wasn’t enough as Le Moyne pulled away to take the game, 88-64.

Zito and Carberry led the offense with 18 and 15 points respectively and sophomore Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out 11 assists. Harris also dropped nine points and Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine as well.

Chris Johnson finished with 22 points to lead all scorers and Damani Corbin dropped 15 for the Dolphins.

Southern returns to action on Saturday as they head to Bridgeport, Conn. for a neutral site game against New York Institute of Technology.
