KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming and diving team mustered several excellent showings in the United States Merchant Marina Academy (USMMA) Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Seniors Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.), Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.), sophomore Jennifer O’Neil (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) each registered individual victories in the competition.

After a second place result in the 200-yard medley relay, the Owls garnered two first place finishes and a second place finish in the next three events. Thomas won the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.45), Sundel took the 200-yard IM (2:21.35) and Hall placed second in the 100-yard freestyle events (55.78).

O’Neil continued her successes early on this season, defeating the rest of the field in the 200-yard butterfly. She completed the event with a time of 2:14.79. O’Neil also collected fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.53) for the Owls.

Following a Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, D.R.) third place showing in the 50-yard freestyle (27.11), Hall and O’Neil rallied for a one-two finish in the 400-yard IM. Thomas wrapped up the competition with a third place performance in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.41).

The Owls return to action on Nov. 23 with an away meet at Yale University. The meet kicks off at 4 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
