NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) was named the Men’s Swimming Northeast-10 Conference Athlete of the Week for his efforts at Saint Rose last week. Sorena captured two first place finishes, propelling the Owls to a 125-104 win to kickoff the 2009-10 campaign. In the sixth event of the competition, he collected the squad’s first win in the 200-yard freestyle. He finished with a time of 1:48.13, granting the Owls nine points. Later on in the 14th event, he completed the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.34. In his first two meets this season, Sorena has been triumphant in four events.

The men’s swimming and diving team is back in action on Nov. 7 at the College of New Jersey. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Ewing, N.J.
