NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

Baseball Team Announces 2010 Schedule

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball coach Tim Shea has announced the team’s 2010 schedule. The Owls will look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last six seasons this spring. SCSU opens the 2010 season on February 13 with a doubleheader against American International in Petersburg, Va. Of the team’s 56 games, the Owls will play 20 contests at the Ballpark at Southern Connecticut.

The Owls begin the season on the road as they travel to Petersburg, Va. for eight games on two separate trips. They begin with a doubleheader against AIC (2/13), followed by another doubleheader the next day against C.W. Post (2/14). Two weeks later, the club plays East Stroudsburg (2/27) and Dominican (2/28) in a pair of doubleheaders.

SCSU remains on the road for its next contest against Mercy (3/5) before returning home the next day for its home opener, a doubleheader against Mercy.

The team will then travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for seven games in five days against C.W. Post (3/10), Felician (3/11), St. Thomas Aquinas (3/12), Bloomfield (3/13) and Dowling (3/14).

The Owls begin Northeast-10 Conference play in their return from Florida on March 16 against Pace before heading to Pace two days later. They remain on the road for a doubleheader at UMass-Lowell (3/20) before returning home to host Concordia (3/22) and Saint Rose (3/23).

SCSU concludes the month of March with four away games – Saint Rose (3/25), Merrimack (doubleheader – 3/27) and AIC (3/28), followed by two home contests; Caldwell (3/30) and AIC (3/31).

Twenty-four of the team’s final 26 regular games are in April. The Owls begin the month with a non-conference road game against Felician (4/1). On April 3, they return to the Ballpark at SCSU for four straight contests against Franklin Pierce (doubleheader – 4/3), Assumption (4/6) and Bridgeport (4/7).

The team’s next three contests are on the road against Assumption (4/8) and Bentley (doubleheader – 4/10) before hosting New Haven in a doubleheader on April 11 and Post on April 12. The Owls get another look at both New Haven and Post in their next contests as they travel to their perspective sites on April 14 and April 15, respectively.

During the second half of April, Southern will host two doubleheaders beginning with Stonehill on April 17. The next two contests are on the road against Concordia (4/19) and Adelphi (4/20). The Owls then host Adelphi in their next contest on April 22 before hosting another doubleheader against Saint Anselm (4/24). They end the month at AIC (4/25), at Caldwell (4/27) and at home for their final regular season contest at the Ballpark at SCSU against Felician (4/28).

The Owls last regular season games are a doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire on May 1.

The Northeast-10 Conference Tournament begins on May 6.
