NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team swept its doubleheader on Saturday in the team’s final regular season contests. In the first match, the Owls took Holy Family in three sets before sweeping Felician, defeating the Golden Falcons for the second time this season. Southern concludes its regular season schedule with a 25-9 overall mark and 9-6 conference record. The 25 wins eclipse last year's mark of 24, which was the highest single-season win total in 25 years.

The Owls won the first match by the scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-15. Seniors Jenna Tammel (Spring Valley, Minn.) and Marcia Hollingsworth (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led the squad with eight kills each. Freshman Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) dished out a team-high 22 assists.

Defensively, Tammel led the team with 13 digs and freshman Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) recorded 10. As a team, the Owls recorded a .306 hitting percentage and held their opponent to 19%.

In the second match and final regular season contest, Southern defeated Felician 25-11, 25-19 and 26-24. Tammel led the squad offensively again with eight kills and Lachowicz added a game-high 32 assists. The Owls connected on 34% of their attacks and held Felician to a .000 hitting percentage.
