Promotions Slated For All January Home Athletic Events

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Promotions will be aplenty at Moore Field House this January, as the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department will host at least one event at all 13 home competitions during the month. The men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and gymnastics squad will all treat fans will a series of exciting events and giveaways. Admission is free to all home winter competitions.
The highlights include a month-long “Give to the Troops” collection at all home men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming competitions in January, ‘Pink Meets’ for the gymnastics and men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads, a ‘Blue Crew’ t-shirt giveaway at the Jan. 16 swimming meet and the annual Girls and Women in Sports Day event on Jan. 30.
The Owls will also host a Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) College Tipoff event on Jan. 12 in conjunction with its home basketball doubleheader against St. Michael’s (5:30 p.m., women; 7:30 p.m., men). Children in grades K-6 can be entered at the CHET checkpoint table to participate in a basketball shooting contest to be held at halftime. Three children will be chosen at random and invited on court. The child who shoots the most baskets in 30 seconds will win a free CHET sweatshirt.
In addition, fans attending the Jan. 16 gymnastics opener against Brown and Springfield will have the opportunity to win pink t-shirts and will also be treated to complimentary food courtesy of Bruegger’s Enterprises.
