Owls Drop Northeast-10 Contest To Assumption, 10-6
Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Thursday’s Northeast-10 matchup included a total of 28 hits and 16 runs as the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was defeated by Assumption at The Ballpark at SCSU by the score of 10-6. Assumption got on the board early and never looked back as they continued to add runs to the scoreboard. Leading the Owls offensively was Karl Derbacher (Northford, Conn.) as he went 4-for-5 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Southern is now 10-16 overall and 5-7 in the conference. Assumption has improved to 12-15-1 and 9-4-1 in the NE-10.

The Greyhounds got on the board early as they scored two runs in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, Southern cut the deficit to one as Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) grabbed his team leading 29th RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field, driving in Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.).

With two outs in the third, Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) hit an RBI single as the Owls trailed 3-2 after three.

The Greyhounds added five more runs in the fourth, fifth and seven to take an 8-2 lead.

After three scoreless innings, the Owls jumped back on the board as Derbacher hit an RBI double through the right side. Geffert followed with a double of his own, grabbing his 30th and 31st RBI. Southern wasn’t done yet as Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) hit another double, cutting the margin to two.

However, Assumption added some insurance in the eighth on a homerun by Mike Baillargeon to give them a 10-6 lead, which would be all the Greyhounds needed to defeat the Owls.

Geffert added three more RBI on the day as he went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) had a single and an RBI double.

The Owls return to the field on Saturday, April 11 as they host a doubleheader against UMass Lowell. First game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
