Laurie Cockerline Signs NLI With Owls' Field Hockey Squad
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University field hockey coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced the signing of Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.) to a National Letter of Intent. Cockerline will suit up for the Owls beginning with the upcoming fall campaign.

“We are excited to have Laurie as a member of our University and field hockey program,” Frassinelli said. “She is an unselfish player that that has great vision of the playing field. She is a player that has good speed and body control. We look forward to the impact she will make this fall.”

A forward/midfielder, Cockerline is coming off a decorated scholastic career at Phillipsburg (N.J.) High School in which she earned All-Conference, All-Area, All-County and All-West Jersey honors. A team captain as a senior, she helped guide Phillipsburg to the second round of the state tournament this past fall. For her efforts, she was named First-Team All-Conference and All-County and earned Second-Team All-Area and All-West Jersey laurels.

Cockerline helped guide Phillipsburg to two state tournament appearances during her career. She also participated in track and field.

The Owls finished the 2008 season with a 13-10 record and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. SCSU also posted the second-highest single-season win total in program history in 2008. The 2009 season opener is on Aug. 29 at Shippensburg.
