Men's Track

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

The Owls honored their senior class members on Saturday afternoon.
Men's Swimming and Diving Win Five Events Against West Chester

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men’s swimming and diving team honored its senior class members and welcomed West Chester to the Hutchinson Natatorium for its annual ‘Pink Meet’ on Saturday afternoon. The Owls to wore pink swim caps and pink T-shirts in support of breast cancer awareness.

West Chester defeated the Owls by the final score of 146.5-121.5.

Sophomores Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.), Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) and Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R.) and senior Ryan Cutler (Mystic, Conn.) each tallied first place showings on the day.

Mizzell won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.71), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.25) and the 200-yard IM (2:03.54), Sorena captured the 1000-yard freestyle (9:39.89) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.98) and Nesrala was triumphant in the 50-yard freestyle (21.92).

Cutler fared well in the diving portion of the competition, winning the three-meter dive (237.30) and taking third in the one-meter event (193.75).

The Owls return to action on Jan. 26 with a competition at Queens College. The event will begin at 3 p.m.
