NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

The Owls honored their senior class members on Saturday afternoon against West Chester.
Women's Swimming and Diving Display Several Fine Showings Against West Chester

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming and diving team honored its senior class members and welcomed West Chester to the Hutchinson Natatorium for its annual ‘Pink Meet’ on Saturday afternoon. The Owls fell short to West Chester by the final score of 161-125.

Junior Jennifer O’Neil (Stratford, Conn.) led the way for the Owls with two victories on the afternoon. O’Neil won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.06) and the 200-yard IM (2:12.13) events for a total of 18 points.

Freshman Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) continued her early season successes with another victory in the 100-yard butterfly (59.63). Thomas also took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.57.

Sophomore Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) captured the last victory for the Owls in the one-meter diving event. Burden posted a score of 234.85 and later also took second in the three-meter event (235.55).

The Owls return to action on Jan. 26 with a competition at Queens College. The event will begin at 3 p.m.
