NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

Owls In Front After Day Two Of Competition At Northeast-10 Championships

Day Two Results

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming and diving team won two events on Saturday night, as the Owls maintained their lead in the Northeast-10 Championships at Hutchinson Natatorium. Southern finished the night with 661.5 points and is followed by Saint Rose (488.5), LeMoyne (361), Bentley (316), Pace (280), Assumption (217), Saint Michael’s (192) and Adelphi (111).

Once again, Southern kicked off the evening with a first place performance in a relay event. Hall, Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.), Jennifer O’Neil (Stratford, Conn.) and Christine Slie (Wallingford, Conn.) combined for a new Northeast-10 Conference record and an NCAA ‘A’ Cut qualifying time, touching the wall with a time of 1:46.09 in the 200-yard medley relay.

In the ensuing event, Hall captured another first place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:24.67. With the mark, Hall set a new Northeast-10 Conference record and notched an NCAA ‘A’ Cut qualifying time.

After a third place showing from Sarah Thomas (Naugatuck, Conn.) in the 100-yard butterfly, Hall was triumphant for the second time on the evening. Hall made an NCAA ‘B’ Cut in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53. 74.

In the next event of the championships, O’Neil found the winners circle again with a first place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke event. O’Neil set a new Northeast-10 Conference record and an NCAA ‘A’ Cut qualifying mark, swimming the event in 1:05.20.

Amanda Thomas tallied the third Owls’ victory in a row when she captured the 100-yard backstroke event. Thomas set a new pool record, a Northeast-10 Conference record and made an NCAA ‘A’ Cut qualifying time with her mark of 57.29.

In the last event of the night, a quartet of Owls captured the 800-yard freestyle relay race. Thomas, Hall, Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, D.R.) and Meghan Fay (Branford, Conn.) combined for a time of 7:49.35.

The Northeast-10 Conference Championships continue on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Hutchinson Natatorium. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with finals to follow at 6 p.m.
