NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

Day One Results

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.), Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) each collected All-America Honors on Wednesday night, as the Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming and diving team scored 40 total points on the first day of competition at the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships.

Drury is currently in first place with 156 points, followed by Wayne State (143) and Clarion University (72). SCSU resides in eighth place after day one.

Hall and Sundel opened the competition with two strong performances in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Hall took third with a time of 10:09.12, earning 16 points and an All-America tribute, while Sundel captured 10th (10:26.29) and All-America honorable mention.

In the next event, Thomas was awarded her first career All-America accolade with a fine showing in the 200-yard IM. Thomas finished in sixth place (2:05.27), granting the Owls 13 points.

The Owls wrapped up the first day with a 15th place effort in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Thomas, Hall, Jennifer O’Neil (Stratford, Conn.) and Christine Slie (Wallingford, Conn.) combined for a time of 1:46.87, earning All-America honorable mention in the event.

The championships continue on Thursday, March 11 with day two of competition in Canton, Ohio. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., with the finals session to begin at 6 p.m.
