NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

SCSU Athletic Department Ranked No. 27 In Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department is currently ranked No. 27 out of more than 300 eligible Division II institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings. The Owls have finished among the top-20 percent in the standings in each of the past three years. Outstanding recent NCAA Championships performances by the men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads and men’s and women’s indoor track and field squads have helped the department attain its current ranking.

Southern Connecticut finished No. 30 in the rankings in 2006-07, No. 46 in 2007-08 and No. 56 last year.
The top school in each NCAA Division, along with the NAIA, is annually presented with the Directors’ Cup.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on an institution’s finish in up to 14 sports – seven women’s and seven men’s.
