NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) scored two goals and assisted on another, but the Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 21-4 decision to Bentley in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Friday night.

The Owls dropped to 0-3, 0-1 on the year. Bentley is now 4-0, 1-0 in league action.

It was a close affair in the early going. SCSU struck first on a goal from Monfredo just 2:58 into action. Bentley countered with two straight goals to go in front by a tally, but Monfredo’s second of the contest evened the score at 2-2.

The Falcons went on to score the next six goals before the Owls countered with a marker from Elaina Heiple (Cheshire, Conn.). Freshman Jacqueline Isabella (Sandy Hook, Conn.) assisted on the goal.

Bentley scored three more times in the waning minutes of the first half to take an 11-3 lead into the intermission.

The Falcons extended their lead to 15-3 before KellyAnne McCafferty (Durham, Conn.) notched a goal off a feed from Monfredo.

Bentley tacked on six more goals to make it a 21-4 final.

Goalie Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with 16 saves in the contest for the Owls.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on March 27 with a home game against Merrimack.
