Seniors Shine In Regular Season Finale

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Seniors KellyAnne McCafferty (Durham, N.H.) and Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) both had five points, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-13 decision to St. Anselm in its 2010 season finale on Saturday.
The Owls conclude the year with an 0-13 mark and are 0-11 in league play. St. Anselm is 6-8, 4-7.
St. Anselm jumped out quickly by scoring four of the first five goals of the contest. The lone Owls goal in that spurt came from Monfredo.
The Owls answered by scoring four of the next five goals to tie the game at 5-5. Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) started the run, which included two goals from McCafferty and one from Elaina Heiple (Cheshire, Conn.).
A Hawks goal was followed by consecutive Owl goals from Monfredo and Elizabeth Dishian (Shelton, Conn.) to give the visitors a 7-6.
St. Anselm scored five of the final six goals of the first half to take an 11-8 lead at the break.
The hosts put the game away by scoring six of the first seven goals of the frame to extend its lead to 17-9.
McCafferty followed with three straight tallies to get the Owls within five at 17-12. However, St. Anselm scored four of the final five goals of the game to make it a 21-13 final.
Goalie Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) made a career-high 21 stops in her final collegiate outing.
