NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University softball team – seniors Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.), Kerry Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), Khristle Lee (Aztec, N.M.) and freshmen Brittany Bucko (Wallington, NJ.) and Kristin Whitley (North Andover, Mass.) – have been recognized with All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Owls’ five selections were the most from any school in the region.

All five were selected to the Second-Team after helping the Owls to a 42-win campaign that included a Northeast-10 Conference Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament East Regional finals.

A four-time All-Conference and three-time All-Region selection, Caporossi had another strong season at the plate. She batted .322 and led the league with 12 home runs and 59 runs batted She also scored 45 runs, good for fourth in the league, and was 19-for-20 in stolen bases, which ranked third in the conference. In addition, she accumulated a .633 slugging and a .358 on-base-percentage. Caporossi was also the Most Valuable Player of the NE-10 Tournament.

Iacomini, a Second-Team All-Conference pick, was stellar in the circle and at the plate in her last season with the Owls. She registered an overall record of 12-1 on the mound, 34 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.04. Offensively, Iacomini finished with a .274 batting average, 28 RBI, 26 runs scored and four homeruns. She also tallied a slugging percentage of .437 and an on-base-percentage of .344.

Also a First-Team Daktronics All-Region and First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference performer, Lee ranked third in the Northeast-10 in runs scored (46), fourth in hits (63) and seventh in triples (5). She was second on the squad with a .366 batting average and tallied 25 runs batted in. Lee was also recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier in the month with First-Team Academic All-District I honors. District I is comprised of all Division II and Division III schools from New York and all of New England. Lee now advances to the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-America laurels.

In her first season with the Owls, Bucko, a Second-Team All-Conference performer, was asked to hold down the leadoff spot in their lineup all season. She led the league in runs scored (51), was second in triples (6), third in walks (25), sixth in total bases (94) and eighth in stolen bases (15). Bucko also accumulated a .351 batting average, 31 runs batted in and seven homeruns.

Whitley proved to be a great asset at second base in her first year with the club. The 2010 Northeast-10 Conference batting champion runner-up (.444 average), Whitley led the team in that department. She was also second in the league in doubles (18), fourth in the league in hits (63) and on-base percentage (.494), fifth in slugging percentage (.662), sixth in total bases (94) and seventh in RBI (36).
