Brustolon, Taylor Earn Academic All-District Honors From CoSIDA

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) and Letecia Taylor (Plainfield, N.J.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country/track and field program have been named to the Academic All-District 1 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brustolon, biology major with a 3.85 grade point average, was named to the First-Team. Taylor, an accounting major with a 3.39 grade point average, was tabbed for the Second-Team. Brustolon advances to the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-America honors.
District I is comprised of schools from New York and all of New England. The duo was in contention with Division II and Division III female student-athletes from across the district participating in women’s cross country and track and field.
Brustolon, who also earned Northeast-10 Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team laurels, as well as the inaugural Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award, was a NCAA qualifier during the cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field campaigns. She also won the New England championship in the 5,000 meters and was the Northeast-10 Conference Champion in the mile indoors and outdoors. Brustolon also earned All-New England honors in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season.
Taylor earned All-America honors in the 60 hurdles this winter and finished her career as a three-time All-American. The 2010 USTFCCA Regional Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, she also qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships in the 100 and 400 hurdles. Taylor finished as the runner-up in the 400 hurdles at the 2010 New England Outdoor Championships. She was also the 2010 Northeast-10 champion in the 55 hurdles (indoors) and the 100 and 400 hurdles (outdoors) and also earned All-New England honors in the 4x400 and the 55 hurdles during the indoor season. Taylor also earned Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Track and Field All-Academic Team honors for the third straight year.
