NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.), who recently completed her senior season as a member of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country/track and field teams, has been named as the winner of the inaugural Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. Brustolon, who also claimed the inaugural Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award back in the fall, was the only female in the conference to earn this accolade twice during the 2009-10 academic year.
Brustolon, who also earned Northeast-10 Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Indoor Track and Field and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team laurels, was a NCAA qualifier during the cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field campaigns. She also won the New England championship in the 5,000 meters and was the Northeast-10 Conference Champion in the mile indoors and outdoors. Brustolon also earned All-New England honors in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season.
During the cross country campaign, she was the Northeast-10 Conference champion – the first Owl in program history to earn that honor – and also collected All-Region and All-New England laurels. Brustolon finished third at the NCAA Regionals and fourth at the New England Championships.
She was also named a First-Team Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Brustolon was a biology major with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average.
