NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two members of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team – seniors Lauren Karn (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Marissa Ryan (Waterbury, Conn.) – have been named to the IWLCA Academic Squad. In order to receive this honor, student-athletes must have achieved at least a minimum GPA of 3.5 and maintained at least junior academic standing. Earlier this month, both student-athletes were also named as recipients of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award for the second year in a row.
Karn, who was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse All-Academic Team for the second time in her career, scored three points on the season (two goals, one assist). Karn also ranked third on the team in groundballs and finished fourth on the club in caused turnovers.
Ryan also started all 11 games for Southern Connecticut in 2010. She was second on the squad in caused turnovers and groundballs, while also ranking fourth in draw controls. Ryan also chipped in six goals on the year.
