A NEW SEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team opens up its season with two games at the Franklin Pierce Tournament. The Owls take on Felician on Friday at 3 p.m. and Queens on Saturday at 1 p.m.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
Southern Connecticut was picked seventh in the league’s preseason poll and secured one first-place vote in a poll of Northeast-10 coaches.

LEADING THE TEAM
Head coach Adam Cohen has announced that senior Lindsay Stanton and juniors Michelle Desmarais and Alison Ditolla will serve as team captains for the Owls this year. All three have been recognized as Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selections for their academic work over the course of their collegiate careers.

STRONG GROUP RETURNING IN 2010
Southern will welcome back the majority of last year’s team, with 12 returners suiting up this year.

NEWCOMERS LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT
The Owls are looking forward to the contribution of 12 new student-athletes - LeAnn DiSisto, Suzane Pires, Alexandra Revoir, Flavia Bernardes, Laura Barberia, Jenna Maisto, Sarah Sheehan, Sarah Brochu, Jacquelyn Fede, Alycia Cartica, Kayla Tamayo and Alexis Vumbaco.

RECORD IN SEASON OPENERS
Tough to beat in season opening games, the Owls have an overall record of 11-2-1.

LOOKING TO STAY UNDEFEATED
To date, the Owls are perfect are against this weekend’s opponents. Felician has yet to score a goal against the Owls all-time in three meetings, as Southern has outscored Felician 14-0. The Owls have competed with Queens twice and both times have been successful. The first match Southern squeezed by with a 2-1 win, where as the second time it was unstoppable, defeating Queens 3-0.

LOOKING BACK AT 2009
The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team capped off the 2009 season with an overall mark of 8-9-1. The Owls were regionally ranked for most of the campaign.

KNIGHT FINISHED ON A HIGH NOTE
Ashley Knight capped her career as a four-time All-Conference performer, as she was once again honored by the Northeast-10 for her play during the 2009 season.

DUO COLLECTS LEAGUE, NEW ENGLAND HONORS
Seniors Ashley Knight and Gina DellaRose both earned All-Conference and All-New England laurels for their play in 2009.

OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM
Eighteen members of the 2009 squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2009-10 academic year.

SUCCESS AS A TEAM AS WELL
The Owls were also recognized with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for posting a cumulative team grade point average of greater than 3.0.

THREE NAMED TO NEWISA SENIOR BOWL
Seniors Erin Conrod, Ashley Knight and Gina DellaRose were named to the NEWISA Senior Bowl following the conclusion of the 2009 season.

NO STRANGERS TO EXTRA TIME
The Owls played seven overtime contests during the course of the 2009 season and posted a 4-2-1 mark in games that required extra time.
