ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Despite double-double performances from Megan Hiss (Trinidad, Colo.), Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) and Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team was edged by Molloy in its season opener on Thursday night, 3-2. The Owls won two of the first three games, but the hosts rallied to claim the final two games to pull out the win.
SCSU started off on the right foot as it captured game one by a score of 27-25. Molloy countered with a 25-23 win in the second game before the Owls came through with a 25-22 win in game three.
However, Molloy controlled the play in games four and five, as evidenced by a 25-15 win in the former and a 15-7 triumph in the latter.
Hiss had a team-high 15 kills and added 14 digs in the contest. Lachowicz contributed 43 assists and 14 digs, while McVey added 14 kills and 14 digs. Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) had 21 digs and Broghan Miller (West Hartford, Conn.) added 14 to round out the Owls’ quintet reaching double digit digs.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday when they take on Georgian Court and Queens at Queens.
