QUEENS, N.Y. – Junior Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) posted a double-double with team-highs of 12 kills and 11 digs to lead the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Queens College on Saturday morning. The Owls then capped the doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 triumph over Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon. SCSU improved to 2-1 on the season with the victories.
The Owls took game one by a score of 25-22 before Queens rallied to collect a 25-23 triumph in the second game.
Southern Connecticut answered by posting a 25-18 win in the decisive third game. The visitors then put the finishing touches on the win with a 26-24 victory in game four.
Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) also posted 12 kills and led the Owls with a remarkable .556 hitting percentage.
Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) paced the club with 37 assists in the win.Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) added a team-high 15 digs.
In game two, the Owls cruised by scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-6. Lyons led the club with seven kills, while Lachowicz's 17 assists were a team-high.
SCSU is back in action on Thursday for its home opener against Felician.
