With just five regular season games remaining in the 2009-10 season, the Southern Connecticut State University men’s basketball team gets ready to face two more Northeast-10 opponents in the week ahead. On Tuesday, February 6, the Owls head to New York, N.Y. to get their second look at the Setters of Pace University (9-13, 7-10 NE-10). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Pace New York City Campus. The squad then concludes the week at Moore Field House as they host a “Pink Zone” initiative event on Saturday, February 13. They will face American International College (10-12, 8-9 NE-10) for the second time this season following the women’s game. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s basketball team was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll on Monday for the third time this season. Carberry has also been named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week on three occasions. In two games last week, he averaged 24 points, 2 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He shot 48.6% (17-for-35) from the floor and an impressive 53.8% (7for-13) from behind-the-arc. Thursday’s meet will comprise of field events only as the Owls compete against Manhattan College and Fordham University at 1 p.m. The next day the squad travels to Boston University for the Valentine Invitational at 1 p.m. as well. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second consecutive week, senior Allyson Smith (East Hampton, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women’s basketball team has been selected to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts on the court, announced on Monday by the conference office. Smith team tossed in a season-high 20 points against New Haven on Saturday afternoon. She finished 6-of-12 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds for the visiting Owls. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics program resumed work with youngsters at the Beecher School in New Haven on Monday. The program was on hiatus for the Owls’ winter break, but has resumed for the spring semester.
